HI,

Is there a way I can block other users from using my CD writer? I dont want
anyone taking away data from my PC. I am using XP Prof.

Thanks
Ramesh

There are third party tools such as DeviceLock that can control access to
computer devices but by far the best way is to use a computer case with an
access panel with a lock to block access to the drives. Also beware that USB
drives are often used to copy data and they may not need administrator
rights to install as is emailing of files. If you don't use USB you can
disable in cmos settings for the computer and then password protect cmos
settings but that will not deter a truly determined user. Beyond that you
may need to look at encrypting files that you do not want other users to
access and encryption has it's own set of risks. --- Steve

If you have NTFS setup, you could set permissions for the folder that has
your cd-writer software installed. Give access to only yourself, or 'admin'
etc..

Assuming it is using third party software to do such though by default in XP
Pro none is needed. Denying physical access is the best solution. -- Steve
