Demoting Domain Questions

One of our site's servers needed rebuilding so while we were undertaking that
this weekend, we also decided to make their domain a part of our domain
(until now they were on a trust with us).... something we had been planning
to do for FOREVER but never had the time. To our dismay, however, the server
ended up being so ruined software-wise that we were unable to get back into
the operating system at one point and just started the format and reinstall.
However, even though that domain no longer exists, it keeps showing up for
the users in the pool of domains on the log on screen. How can we get it to
stop showing up? It's probably super-simple, but we've been working on this
prject for 3 days straight and I think our brains are fried. :O(

Any help would be great! TIA!

Remove it from AD using NTDSUtil "metadata cleanup".

Well, it is a bit tedious, but not that hard compared with 3 days
of "brain frying" <grin>

All the dead DCs have to be removed first, then the domain.

Search Google for:

[ NTDS "metadata cleanup" remove DC Domain ]

No need to add either site:microsoft.com OR microsoft:
since the NTDS and other terms make it Microsoft specific
by itself.

Unless you WISH to restrict answers to the site:microsoft.com
for some reason.

[ NTDS "metadata cleanup" remove DC Domain site:microsoft.com ]

KEY points to NOTE when doing the metadata cleanup:

You CONNECT to a WORKING DC.
You SELECT the missing/dead DC or DOMAIN

'Connect' and 'Select' are technical terms in this context.
