Illegal to ask for-like in the US with the DMCA

I think it would only be illegal to ask if mere possession of the tools
themselves is illegal. After all, I can think of at least one lawful
reason to get them - you are a developer and want to check your own prog
for "cracking difficulty". Anyway, you would be charged with attempted
possession much like the dopeheads buying a fix from an undercover cop
on the street.

Wrong! Posts like his are a direct soliciation to form a conspiracy
for the comission of a crime. In the US and most parts of the
civilized world, that is a chargeable criminal offense in itself,
falling somewhere between things like "solicitation of prostitution"
and "racketeering".

Worse still, the OP is employing interstate communications to commit
the offense, which ups the penalties considerably, so the FBI and
possibly INTERPOL may now enter the scene. (Just as taking a hooker to
a motel on the other side of the state line violates the federal Mann
Act.)

Come to think of it, the communications medium really doesn't matter
here, since anything involving copyright violation is already a
federal offense. (Remember the FBI warnings that once were placed at
the start of commercial videos.)

Since the OP was using AOL, I'm assuming that he is posting from the
US. In this case, unless he is seriously retarded or has led a very
cloistered life up to now, he definitely should know better.
Otherwise, he could very soon be learning the facts of life each night
from a fat slob named Bubba (who incidently has Aids) in some federal
lockup.
