Hi,
~
I got a DELL 0N6250 USB MULTIMEDIA KEYBOARD SK-8135 NIB and I got it
because it was advertised as having a USB Hub. However when I try my
USB external drive Windows XP is not handling it off the keyboard.
When I plug it, windows does its things as if it is handling it just
fine but you can't see any drive letters or anything to get to it
~
If you go:
~
My computer > Properties > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager > [USB |
Disk Drives]
~
and then click on: "Populate"
~
you get as output:
~
Disk: Disk 2
Type: Unknown
Status: Unreadable
partition Style: Not Applicable
~
Why is this happening? how can I fix it?
~
Do you know of any USB external microdrive that can work off a USB
hub from a multimedia keyboard?
~
Thanks

It seems that the external hard drives might require more power from
the USB port than the keyboard "hub ports" might provide.

You should first confirm that the external drive is working correctly
first by connecting it directly to your PC USB ports first.

That happened to me with another model of keyboard. I believe it was the
ZBOARD (you know the one with interchangable keysets for games) and it had a
low powered usb port on it, which made it virtually useless.

A similar thing happened to me. I got around it by plugging the keyboard
into a USB hub with its own power, which I had bought to power a hungry Xbox
controller. If I plugged the controller into a PC USB port, the rest of my
ports were dragged down so much they barely worked. Now I can plug most
anything into my keyboard USB ports with no problem, be it a pen drive or my
WD external drive.
