Wow nice find, I wonder if the airlines will take note! I wonder if a
person calls in a bomb threat on a Dell laptop if it will be
legitimate. I also wonder if Dell's warranty covers damage to other
products such as Jenny. I bet a civil suit is going to be filed, to
reclaim costs.

Model rocket engines are smaller and faster at destroying trucks than
exploding Dells. Just ask Dateline NBC. :-P

Try it, you'll get handcuffed in no time. And then your lawyers will
have hard time arguing that Mickey Dell is the real culprit ;-)

plus punitive damages with many zeros after the first digit - and
rightfully so. A burning cup of coffee (no fire, but serious burns to
victim's skin) resulted in McDonalds being slapped with a few millions
in punitive damages. If we take this as a legal precedent, and
increase the number proportionally to how much more a laptop costs
comparing to the coffee, the number of aforementioned zeros would be
high enough to be reflected in Dell's financial report.

Not to mention the cost of Jenny. :-)

Well, in this case, I would suppose that Dell would have a legitimate
excuse in claiming that this wouldn't have happened to this extent if
there weren't bullets in the glovebox.

You talking about ESTES model rocket engines? Man! I used to build and
launch those things when I was a kid and it was a friggen hoot! Can't wait
to turn my little girl on to them when she's a little older (she's 4
now....just a wee bit too little to be playing with solid rocket engines,
eh?)

Go fer it! I went though that with my son in early grade school
and then again with his BoySouts troup for their merit badge.
Loadsa fun! ...though Estes is tame stuff ('C' being their biggest
engine).

When I was a kid, oh never mind. DHS wouldn't be happy.

Er, they have 'D' and 'E' class engines as well, at least if I understand
their online site properly. Apparently, some rockets can reach altitudes of
almost 550m (approx. 1800 ft.) which I find just toooo funny. Can't wait
till she's 8 or so!!

Bummer, Chris. I never a problem launching them (IIRC...it's been at least
35 years or so <sigh>) at all. My problem was always in retrieval; ie,
rockets touching down hundreds of yards (maybe even a mile?) away due to
wind conditions, or on top of houses, or caught way up in trees etc., etc.
But I DO remember having an absolute blast both building and launching them.
Heck, even got kicked out of the Boy Scouts for launching one topped off
with a few ml's of gasoline, upon which during chute deployment proceeded to
fall to the earth ablaze. I **still** remember that like it happened
yesterday....very stupid. ;-)

Yes.

Man! I used to build and launch those things when I was a kid and it was a
friggen hoot!

I still have my first rocket, from when I was 7 or 8. It has a small ding
in one of the fins that'd need fixing, and the parachute is no doubt shot,
but I suspect it'd still be flyable once those problems are fixed. It
probably hasn't been launched in more than 20 years.

I don't know how you could keep them on the pad. These things had
some real power!

Well, my son will be 28 shortly so I haven't looked at Estes
lately. ;-) They used to go only to 'C' and those were boosters
(C-6-0, IIRC). There was another company, can't remember the name
off hand that had engines up to 'F', at least when I was a kid.
Later they were limited by fireworks statutes to 'E'. We had one
rocket with a F-.5-0 booster and an E-3-6, or some such, second
stage. Saw a huge column of smoke, a pop of the parachute charge,
and nothing ever again. ;-(

Yep. Department of Homeland Security. ;-)

I mean, the engine never started. I don't know if it was the battery,
or same bad engines, or what.

I also had really bad luck with gas-powered airplanes. The &*$(#@!
motor did NOT want to start and run!

Battery, most likely. I can't remember the company (the one with
the 'F' engines) had much better ignitors than Estes. They had some
pyrotechnics on the nichrome wire. ...of corse dynamite fuse
worked quite well too. ;-)

I had some that didn't want to start. Again, I think it was a
battery problem.
