"Windows would not load the installer for the Battery. Contact vendor
etc."
...appears on start up. Apart from this message, once the message is
canceled
the laptop seems to be about normal. I am running it on the mains
cable so does
this mean it is not/cannot be charged? Any help gratefully received.
TIA
My apologies for the cross-post to
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support. I missed out on the CC:

I would do as the error message says and contact the vendor; i.e., call Dell
tech support.

Did you "contact vendor" (i.e., Dell) as the message suggested?

Please post the exact complete text of the error message.

The "windowsxp.help_and_support" newsgroup is for problems with the
Windows Help system, and not (as you may have expected) for general help.

Thanks, Lem. The problem was...the owner hadn't "registered" his
Windows after re-installing. I have to say..the word "general" in the
NG heading IS misleading. Rather sweeping, all-encompassing but NOT in
fact. I'll remember in future.
