Dell Insperion 6000 won't run on battery.

If this is not appropriate for this group, please advise me as to a
better one.

I have the above laptop that will not run off the battery. It
happened suddenly that if unplug it from AC, it just shuts off and
will not start unless plugged in again. Seems for an odd way for a
battery to go, just stop working. Any thoughts?

Dell are bastards and there's a counter in the battery that basically
gives you a set number of cycles then stops it working. It's claimed to
be supposedly done for our benefit so we don't end up with a battery
that reduces in the time it'll run as it goes on so you know that a
full charge will always give you a minimum of X hours..

It's possible to get the counter reset BUT I found that the aftermarket
ones on Ebay are nearly twice the capacity of the originals and work a
lot better.

"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.

Anybody know how to reset it just so I can confirm that is the cause?
