The Dell in my office has no power management options
even when i am logged in as an administrator the drop-
down box in the control panel for "power options" and
specifically under "power schemes tab" is blank. They
seemed to have disappeared. Nonetheless, my system
hibernates after a default period (annoyingly soon).
I'm running XP.

One suggestion was a bios update may be needed. Any
other ideas or help in this matter would be appreciated.

Hi Brett,

It is highly likely that your PM settings are currently being defined by the
system BIOS. Before you will be able to use Windows-based PM, you would need
to disable the BIOS level PM. Be aware that if PM wasn't installed
initially, regaining those options after disabling BIOS PM may require a
repair installation of WinXP.
