Unbelievable ... I started out with (and still have) the same problem that I've seen posted here re: Internet Explorer going directly to a page, fully loaded immediately, and then freezing for 30 seconds or so. This happens with each click or each page change. I called Dell Customer Support (BIG MISTAKE). I have Very Limited Computer Knowledge, and followed all the steps that these people in South East India walked me through yesterday from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm. I ended up with a horrible mess - they had me somehow go behind the scenes and disable all of my usb ports (I've resolved that), were having me do a repair/reinstall on windows xp home, and the process kept coming back with error messages that said the reinstall disc was missing files. To shorten the story - I now have a system that WILL NOT accept a system restore - it goes through the entire process, reboots, and then tells me that the operation can not be completed - and when I go to system tools/system information - I get the message " CAN'T COLLECT INFORMATION Can not access the windows management instrumentaion software. Windows management files may be moved or missing." The idiots at Dell are now telling me that the only thing that I can do now is format my hard drive and start over - I have a small home business - with A LOT of files, that haven't been backed up. Is there any way around formatting my hard drive? All of this from a simple Internet Explorer question --- PLEASE HELP!!!!

Have you used windows update and installed all the critical patches listed,
if not do that. When you do a repair install all previous updates can/are
removed, like SP1 etc but use windows update to see what needs to be
re-installed.

Before doing anything to resolve your IE problem prevent another by
correcting "with A LOT of files, that haven't been backed up" by backing up
your computer's important files. Any computer with a problem should be
backed up before attempting any procedure that may destroy data. Doing a
system restore that fails has resulted in a totally crashed computer and
then the only corrective measure then would be a fresh install of the OS
with possible deletion of all data files.

BACK UP THOSE FILES - BACK UP THOSE FILES - BACK UP THOSE FILES - BACK UP
THOSE FILES - BACK UP THOSE FILES

when they say your in h**l with a Dell...
they're not kiddin.....
how bout that tech support at Dell........yeh, right..

When you start your computer hit the F8 key a list will come up, boot in safe mode if you can, copy all your files to another storage unit then reinstall. Go to Start - My Computer - C: drive go to the Windows folder - Restore - rstrui system restore application microsoft corporation. I WOULD DO THIS FIRST ->You can also go to Start - Control Panel - Internet Properties - go down to multimedia and uncheck play animations play sounds play videos show pictures or any combo of these make sure you hit apply then ok. When your web page comes up you can click on the pictures and open them as well as the animation sounds and videos. That will load your web pages faster but it wil be text only - unless you click on one or more of these to open them.
