Whilst I was using my Dell computer it froze up, I tried all ways I know to
rectify it including control+alt+delete , nothing worked so finally I turned
off the power. Now when I turn the computer on all I get is the CD light
constantly flashing and the power and hard drive lights flash alternatively,
the computer does not boot up and the screen remains blank.

Any help appreciated.

This is not a Windows problem. You have hardware failure. Call Dell tech
support. It could be something as simple as a dead power supply or it
could be more serious such.

Have you tried booting in Safe Mode, then check your Startup options in
registry and Startup folders.

How old is your Dell

If it is relatively new this won't apply, but if it two or three years old,
open the case so that you can see the mother board. Look for capacitors.
If they are "blown", that is if the tops have been pushed up or if they are
leaking, that is the problem.

If the caps look okay, they probably are okay.

Dell isn't the only manufacturer that got stung with this batch of bad caps,
but virtually everything they made for a period of a year or two either has
or will fail.

Do you have a modem (dailup - not DSL/Cable, ...)

My uncle had a Dell and the modem was fried. After that, his system would
not boot. After I removed the modem card, the system came up fine.
Or it could be a bad video adapter card ... your systems coming up ... but
you cannot see it?

Try another video card ... have you checked your connections from your
monitor to PC? Is there a power light for the monitor? Is it on?
