When I boot my Dell Latitude, I am asked to strike F1 to continue or enter
the BIOS setup. This just started happening. Does anybody know how to fix
this? Thanks.....

Does the message say anything else? Usually you only get that
message when something is out of wack in the BIOS like FSB or memory
speed. Enter the BIOS once to check that the FSB multiplier, and
memory speed is correct, and also check onboard temp.
If everything checks out, you might concider updating the BIOS.
Also check that time is being kept..... you might need a new battery.

Good luck-

I had this also for a while on my Dell and I could only get it to go away
when I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the OS. You could check
out the Dell Community forums for more info....

Front Side Bus Multiplier.
It sets the speed of your processor by multiplying the front side bus
speed.
It is used for setting your processor to its proper speed, or to
over-clock it.

His problem has nothing to do with XP as it happens before xp boots. Just go
into the cmos and exit out.

FWIW you won't find any of that stuff in a Dell BIOS.

Nick, you are right of course but somehow the complete reinstallation on my
system did make a difference. A bit drastic for just this problem but I had
some others to clean up as well.

Looking at the Dell Community forums this "strike F1" message usually
indicates something has changed that has caused the system to fail the POST.
A keyboard or mouse fault or wiring change, something like that. There are
some diagnostic lights on most Dells at the back and the info at
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dsleest/codemess.htm tells you how to
interpret them. Check them out before hitting the F1 key and that may
assist to pinpoint what has changed.
