I am using Vista Business on an Asus F3S laptop. I have installed my
Dell1600n printer/scanner. The printer works fine, but the Vista scan
software cannot connect to the scanner.
I have downloaded the Dell Vista 32 bits driver, but this driver causes a
conflict.
What should I do ?

Regards Eduard

Is this connected directly to the laptop by the USB connection or over
the network connection? If the latter some scanners will not work over
networks.

I have successfully implemented the scanning option for a Dell 1600n on WinXP
Pro and a Dell 1815n (Duplex + Memory upgrade to a 1600n) on WinXP Pro, Vista
Business but have had problems with another computer running Vista Ultimate.
The 1815n is Networked via TCP/IP and printing has never been a problem but
if the install of the Scanner using the latest Dell software for the OS does
not work the first time, it appears to be unfixable. The TWAIN device entries
in the registry do not appear to "uninstall" properly but I have no concrete
evidence to this. Past experience with TWAIN devices in Win98, WinNT4, Win2k,
WinXP and now Vista has led me to belive that without specific registry hacks
to completely remove the registry entries from the driver manufacturer,
Scanner install may never work if it does not work the first time. I got the
1815n working on the Vista Business laptop via format, clean OS install, turn
off Vista Firewall and Restore Points and then load the Dell software with a
clean OS and Registry. Sorry for only having an "observation" and not a
solution.
