What's up with dell?
I have gotten 2 hard drives from dell and none of them have worked for longer then 2 weeks.
I keep getting the NTLDR is missing message and i cant seem to get away from it.
If anyone has a hint on how i can use my new laptop and not have to worry about losing everything ( pics etc.) please let me know.
I't getting frustrating and they are looking for a payment but i refuse to pay for something i can't use.
Thanks alot ahead of time.

If it's a new Laptop & it's not working then send it back to Dell under the warranty.:thumb:

Hi,

Welcome to PC Review,

Could be a faulty batch that they had sent into them. Have you tried reinstalling windows? To get your data back I would download this http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download then buirn it with power iso and boot from the cd install it or run it from the cd this will then allow you to copy all your pics, music, docs. To CD, DVD or pen drive then you can go ahead with the reinstall with windows. It might also be worth checking with dell to see if they can give you any sort of benchmark tool to test the drive, or if you know what the maker of the drve is you could go to there site and downlaod the tool from there and test the drive.

Edit: I have found a step by step guide on how to recover files using Ubuntu. Here As mentiond before send the laptop back if its new. But back up the data frist.

I hope this helps,

Regards,

Wiz

My own view is stated above, if it's not working then get it sorted under the warranty.
If you try to load Ubuntu on to it do you void the warranty??

I wouldn't had thought that could void warranty, but I could be wrong.

What you saying is a good idea, but if it was me i would get Dell to look at it though as it's still under the warranty.
If theirs been a problem already then it could be like you say a dud batch of hdd.

Stop! Before you go sending laptops back aor getting hold of customer support..Here's a simple question, when booting the laptop up, do you have any other media plugged into any of the USB ports etc...?iPod or USB massstorage..?There are a few common reasons for this error, and it is easily repairable, most common though is it is trying to boot from a non bootable source..

Well thanks alot!!!
If it's not reading from a bootable source, how can i fix that??
I have gotten a new HD from them b4 and this is the second one I have to get pics and whatever from.
Could I take the hd's into a comp doc and get them back or should I not bother and just send them back?
I have not tried to reinstall windows because i tried that the first time and it wouldnt read it at all.
Now this UBNUTU.. can I dl it or do i have to buy a cirtain cd?
(im going to have to stock up on cd's i guess lol)
Thanks again duders.

Yeah you can do the UBUNTU cd yourselve all you need is what I said and a blank cd to burn it to. If you can't do it then I think you can get one sent out free of charge.

Hope this helps,
