Delivery barcodes on envelopes

I recently upgraded to Office 2007 Standard. In my older version of Word
2002, when printing envelopes, I had the option of adding delivery barcodes
to envelopes. Is this option available in this new version of Word? If so,
how do I access it? I've looked through the Options features on Word as well
as the Options box which appears when printing envelopes, but couldn't find
any references to delivery barcodes.

Hello Softshell,

Yes, you go to Tools > Letters & Mailings > Envelopes & Labels, then click
the Options button. In the Envelope Options dialog box, click the "Delivery
point bar code" and "FIM-A courtesy reply mail" check boxes, and your address
will produce a bar code. Using a ZIP+4 will produce a longer bar code that
moves it more quickly through the system. You can look them up on the USPS
website.

Although you can still insert the POSTNET bar code using a BarCode field,
the option to add them automatically to labels and envelopes was removed
from Word 2007 because the bar codes thus produced were no longer
USPS-compliant; see "The POSTNET bar code that Word generates no longer
qualifies for USPS bulk mailing discounts" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=897290

Thanks for the information. I didn't see anything on the Options portion of
creating an envelope, but I thought it might be available somewhere else,
since I'm still trying to navigate through all the new things in Word 2007.
Thanks again.

You don't find it in Word 2007. Kamran overlooked your version information.
In Word 2007, the Envelopes button is the first one on the Mailings tab.
When you are in the Envelopes dialog, there's an Options button that opens
the Envelope Options dialog (as you obviously already know).

But, as you have discovered, the barcode option is no longer available; it
was removed in Word 2007 because the code was no longer valid (see “The
POSTNET bar code that Word generates no longer qualifies for USPS bulk
mailing discounts†at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=897290.

If, despite all, you still want to insert a POSTNET barcode, you can do so
through Insert | Text | Quick Parts | Field.
