BlankI have tried to delete Visual Studio Express. The reason is that an unrelated program is returning a Visual Studio error message, so I thought removing Visual Studio would mean this would not happen and I might get closer to finding out the reason the other program fails

I am concerned however that it may not all have been deleted.

A dir listing of C:\Program Files finds these directories/files

Directory of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared

10/06/06 01:04 PM <DIR> Visual Database Tools
0 File(s) 0 bytes

Contents of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Visual Database Tools\
vdt70.dll 3.12 MB [A] 16/01/01 6:01:56 AM
vdt70g.dll 816 KB [A] 16/01/01 5:58:22 AM

Contents of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Visual Database Tools\1033
vdt70ui.dll 180 KB [A] 16/01/01 5:56:54 AM

Directory of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSEnv

23/09/05 06:15 AM 15,805 Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSHelp.xml
23/09/05 06:15 AM 15,112 Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSHelp80.xml
2 File(s) 30,917 bytes

Directory of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSEnv\PublicAssemblies

23/09/05 05:56 AM 16,384 Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSContentInstaller.dll
23/09/05 05:56 AM 11,264 Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSHelp.dll
23/09/05 05:56 AM 8,704 Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSHelp80.dll
3 File(s) 36,352 bytes

Queries
(1) Are these all related to Visual Studio?
(I am not sure about Visual Database - is it related to Visual Studio?)

(2) Can I safely delete them ?

Trevor sadi this:
I am concerned however that it may not all have been deleted.

That may have happened but majority scripts/dlls/executables no longer exist
and should provide no interference. This depending on what pogram you are
trying to open of course.

Contents of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Visual Database
Tools\1033 / vdt70ui.dll

= Microsoft Visual Database Tools Package 7.00

Contents of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Visual Database
Tools\
vdt70.dll 3.12 MB [A] 16/01/01 6:01:56 AM
= Microsoft Visual Database Tools

vdt70g.dll 816 KB [A] 16/01/01 5:58:22 AM
= Microsoft Design Tools - Grid

I would just move these files into another folder to see if it has any
effect on other apps first. I think if any, it would only affect the MS
office suite.

The program whch gives the error is Ulead Movie Factory Suite 3.5

What is Visual Database ?
Is it part of Visual Studio?
Whatever, I can move these files or even leave them if there are programs
which use them, but what about these which are clearly labelled Visaul
Studio?

Or are you saying that I should move the Viual Studio files ?
If so, as well as or instead of the other ones ?

Well I don't know how Visual Studio could interfere with Ulead Movie Factory
Suite 3.5, I would check their site for troubleshooting or search through
forums there.

The obvious visual studio files might be used by other apps (Internet
Explorer uses database engines, CMD and other windows apps use visual basic
etc.) just leave them for now. Try to troubleshoot your specific application
problems then deal with Visual Studio later.

Ulead knowledge base - http://www.ulead.com/tech/kb.htm

Ulead Forums - http://www.ulead.com/tech/forums.htm

Search MSDN newsgroups (Visual Studio forums)
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=75&SiteID=1

To uninstall Visual Studio - download 'total uninstall'
http://www.martau.com/
Use it to install VB express again. It will take a snapshot of your
computer, tracking changes so when you use total uninstall to remove VB, it
will remove ALL instances of the program - even registry entries.

good luck!
