Downloaded and installed all critical updates to WIN 2000
Pro and one driver update. Installation history
shows "successful" and everything seems to be running
fine. Two questions please. (1) How do I know the driver
was installed? (2) Can I remove the downloaded
installation files (not the archived files or the update)
and if so, what are the steps to doing the removal. I
don't even know where the downloaded installation files
are located! Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Marty

To see if a Driver was installed via Windows Update, go to Windows Update
and check with 'View Installation History' (on the left on the WU Site).
There you will see a list of Updates you installed via Windows Update,
including Drivers.

What you can do as well is that you right-click on 'My Computer' and choose
'Properties' and there goto -> Haredware -> Device Manager... There chose
the Device of choice, right-click on it and open 'Properties'. In the
Properties 'Window' choose the 'Driver' tab. There you can see what Driver
Version is currently installed.

To your second question: Downloaded Files that have subsequently been
installed, are handled as any other temporary Files by Windows. This means
they can be deleted from time to time.

However, the temporary Files when you update IE are safed in this directory:
C:\WINNT\Windows Update Setup Files (in this example, c:\ is the
%systemdrive%, ie the drive/partition where you have Windows 2000
installed). You can safely delete this Folder. However, if Windows needs
those Files again, you will have to re-download them.

To clean the temp Files up, please do this:

- Goto START-> Accesoires-> System Tools-> Disk Cleanup

- Run it for the HD/Partition you want to clean.

- Done.

NOTE: If you were using the "Windows Update Catalog" to download Files, you
will need to delete the Files in the folder you had specified where you
wanted to download your Files to.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
