I have two user accounts of type administrator and windows does not provide
the option to delete either one of then (says I cannot delete one of them
because I must have at least one remaining administrator account). I don't
understand why windows does not see that I have two accounts and will have a
remaining administrator account if I were to delete one.

try hitting F8 when the computer is starting up, select "safe mode" from the
menu, and enter control panel and user accounts there to see if you can
delete one.

tried safe mode, still no luck. To be more precise, to delete the account,
I'm first trying to change the account type (from administrator to limited),
then I plan to deleted the limited account. But it's when I'm trying to
change the account type that I'm only presented with one option to select,
administrator. The limited option is present but dimmed out and not
selectable. It is on this panel where it tells me that I must change/create
another account to be an administrator before I can change this account to
something besides administrator.

So what don't you understand about this message. Seems quite explicit to me. You need to have created one admin account at a minimum.

But I already have two admin accounts. I'm trying to change one so I can
delete it . . . but windows is telling me I cannot change one. I don't
understand why it says I cannot change this account, when I have another
administrator account already.

What account are you trying to delete ??
AFAIK, you cannot delete the account named "administrator".

I'm trying to change one of my two administrator accounts to a limited
account so that I can then delete it.

You don't make sense. Just delete it. No need to make it limited. You must have a user created admin account (at least after you create one you need to keep one).

ok, maybe I'm missing something obvious here, how do I delete an account. I
am not seeing an option to delete the acct when I select the account under
control panel. my options are 1) change the name, 2) change the password, 3)
remove the password, 4) change the picture and 5) change the account type.
No option to delete the account.

Did you use an account with ADMINISTRATOR privilege when you tried to delete
the unwanted account through control panel?

Are you using Windows XP Professional? If so, you can use Computer Managment
(right-click on My Computer and select Manage) to delete user accounts.

If you are using Windows XP Home, you will be able to delete a user account
with the user accounts window. As others have stated, you cannot delete the
'Administrator' account and you must have administrative rights to delete an
account.

Dave, I am using XP Pro and was able to delete the account using Computer
Management.

Thank you.
