In Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | /View\
[Y] "Do not cache thumbnails." [OK]

Use this command in the parent folder to remove all Thumbs.db files.

DEL /s /ah Thumbs.db

search for "thumbs.db" with the settings set to search hidden files and folders. Delete all of the files that come up.

The thumbs.db file is generated to store the thumbnail images of any pictures that are viewed that way.

thank you. that did the trick.

what is the difference between using the DEL command on the command
prompt and pressing shift+del in explorer?

because that's what i did to delete thumbs.db but it didn't work. that
is, it deleted the file but when i unchecked "do not chache thumbnails"
and returned to the folder, the old thumbnails showed up (i know this
because i changed the quality of thumbnails - why i needed to delete all
thumbnails).

Good.

DEL /s /ah Thumbs.db means delete the file, even if it has the "Hidden" attribute.

A "normal" file with the "Hidden" attribute can be deleted via the [Del] key in Windows Explorer.

Thumbs.db is a "special" file.
I have no idea "how" Windows caches anything.
