I want to delete all my temporary internet files, I
believe they are slowing down my system considerably.I am
afraid of deleting important system files or application
files I might need. Can someone give me specfic
instructions on how to clean out my temp files? I
appreciate any help you might give. Thanks, Jeannie

Jeannie there are actaully a few ways of deleting your temporary internet
files. The first is using the disk clean application
(start>allprograms>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup)
Another way of doing it is to manually delete them. To do this you need to
enable the show hidden files because the temporary internet file folder is
hidden. The details for showing hidden files are available on my web site at
www.freelanceit.glowinternet.com Click the Win XP faq button and look for
How do I show hidden files.
Once you have enabled show hidden files open windows explorer. in the left
pane of the windows explorer window click on the plus sign next to My
Computer to expand the menu. Next click the plus sign next the local disk
(C). Do the same with Documents and Settings. Under documents and settings
click the plus sign next to the folder with your name on it. This expands
the menu again. Finally click the plus sign next to the Local Settings
option. You will see the Temprary Internet folder at the bottom of the list.
Click on this and then delete each file in the temporary internet folder.
Perhaps the easiest way is to make sure that the temporary internet files
folder is deleted every time you close your browser. Once again the details
for this are on my website. On my web site click the Win XP faq button and
look for 'how do i get xp to empty temporary internet files folder when
browser closes'

I think that should set you on the right track

Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools>Internet options...>General tab. In
second section click on "Delete Files..." button.

Not so sure ? Click on "Settings..." button to the right, then "View Files"
in next box, which opens the TIF folder. You can then look at what's going
to be deleted.

I delete these regularly and have had no problems.

Best way is to open Control Panel - Internet Options and click on the
Delete Files button on the General Tab.

In the Delete Files window click on the checkbox for "Delete all
offline content" to select it and then click on OK.

Also if you have a fast Internet connection (Cable or DSL) then you
might want to go to the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Security
tab. Click on the checkbox for "Delete Temporary Internet Files when
browser is closed" to select it and then click on Apply.

There is little or no performance advantage to saving Temporary
Internet Files from session to session with a high speed Internet
connection. However if you are on a dial-up service via telephone
lines then the T.I.F. can and do speed up performance considerably
especially when you go to the same web pages quite frequently.

Good luck
