Deleting System Volume Information Files

I'm trying to defrag my hard drive using PerfectDisk and it reports a large
number of files(99) that are excluded from the defrag. As a result, my hard
drive remains pretty badly fragmented. I have disabled System Restore and
(using Disk Cleanup) deleted old Restore files but these 99 files remain. I
believe they may be left over from the XP installation previously on the
drve. Is there any way to remove them?

Thanks for the suggestion. It successfully defragged my files but left the
free space badly fragmented. It also did nothing about getting rid of the
System Volume Information files, which I don't think I need any more. It's
these files that are causing the free space fragmentation. This problem did
not exist with XP; I understand that it's caused by changes inthe Vista file
system.

Can these files be accessed in any way that can help me resolve the issue?
