Sorry for my questions; I am a little new to this...When I
run MSAS, it finds lots of junk, but it deletes
nothing...I click to erase what it finds, but it just
finds and does nothing...It also does not launch when I
hit the scan now button; I have to set the schedule..I
have already reinstalled twice...what am I doing
wrong?..very frustrating...

thanks for the suggestion Andre...It just seems like the
program is not running as intended...none of the
descriptions of how its supposed to run in Help seem to
fit...

Does it also not run in safe mode?

Have not tried to run in safe mode yet (Im at work-
computer at home)...My concern is that I may not know how
to run this program. What am I not doing that causes the
scan to Ignore all the junk it finds even though I clicked
on the erase box...

Something isn't right, but I'm unclear about whether this is due to a bug in
Microsoft Antispyware, a problem with your individual install(s)--which
would also be a bug, or some object that is in place that is interfering.

The syndrome of scanning, threat found, cleaning, and on restart, threat
found again is familiar.

I believe this is usually caused by the threat not, in fact, being properly
cleaned.

The restart in safe mode procedure gives cleaning apps--both antispyware and
antivirus, a better chance at getting the job done right. Most third-party
services are not started in safe mode, including some trojan processes.

I'd like to see you get the machine cleaned up, and then be able to address
whether Microsoft Antispyware is functioning correctly in your particular
install. This is a chicken and egg situation since I hope to use Microsoft
Antispyware to do the cleaning--but lets see what happens in safe mode.

tried running in safe mode, but no success...uninstalled,
deleted program files antispyware folder and reinstalled;
same problem-click on run now and just takes me to blank
screen...I wonder if the problem is with the
administrator? I read program has to be installed by the
administrator. could that be it ? I tried running safe
mode as administrator but same results..is the issue with
the installation??

Is this on XP Home? If so, any account with administrator permissions
should be fine--typically that's "owner."

You can't install in safe mode, 'cause the installer service isn't running.
Not sure whether it's possible to start it.

Can you see if this sequence makes any difference to your install:

1) Open up a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd)
2) Type in the following "regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll" (without the quotes).
3) Close and re-open Windows AntiSpyware

Thanks for your continued suggestions!..I'll try tonight
when I get home...I have XP; believe it is professional
version...just seems like my downloads keep getting
corrupted...did use ccleaner to remove lots of temp
stuff...

Unfortunately this suggestion did not work either...The
load is basically not working; when the program is
launched, it hangs up on "loading". I double click on the
tray icon and a screen is launched but there is very
little information in it...Have reinstalled several times
to no avail...
My desktop runs on a pentium III. Could this be an issue ?
I also have a message "Windows system error - Object name
already exists". Could this be an issue for running MSAS ?
Thanks Again...

I've got Microsoft Antispyware running on pii-300's and my own machine is a
piii-750--the processor isn't the issue.

Can you give complete details about the "system error" message? Is it
recorded in the system event log? (that may be an easy place to cut and
paste details from.)

Aside from trying to see whether the system error is relevant, what I'd be
inclined to try is uninstalling Microsoft Antispyware, then deleting the
folder c:\program files\microsoft antispyware and its subfolders. (assuming
Microsoft Antispyware is installed on drive C)

Then reinstall Microsoft Antispyware, being certain to be logged in as the
administrator user who will use the program.

This is the error message for MSAS:
Faulting application giantantispywaremain.exe, version
1.0.0.615, faulting module msvbvm60.dll, version
6.0.96.90, fault address 0x00068858.
Another Error message is:
The WinDriver service failed to start due to the
following error:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

Help ! and Thanks...by the way, I am listed as
administrator...
