Windows 2000 Server SP4
Function: File and Print Server

We are having some disk space issues and I noticed that in directory
C:\winnt\system32\spool\printer there are a number of .SPL files that are
rather large. In fact, 3 SPL file are almost 600MB.

What are the ramifications of stopping the print spooler and deleting the
..SPL files?

They are safe to delete. SPL files are spool files (print jobs), once the
job is printed, they are supposed to be removed automatically.

Why would they not be deleting automatically?

Several things. Ususally something (like a virus scanner) causes the files
to be in use. Apparently some versions of Mcafee have this problem. Do you
have Mcafee installed?

No, Symantec. Are you aware of problems with them regarding this issue?

So I delete them, what about redirecting them to our larger raid volume?
Thoughts?
