Hi there
I getting really fed up with this SideSearch engine that
keeps on opening up whenever I do a search. It's
provided by Lycos...there was an option for turning it
off in which I did but that didn't work. I don't know
where this SideSearch came from I never wanted this.
How I can delete this program??

Thanks much appreciated.

Hi,

While, in this case, you may want to persue other
avenues of trying to remove a Lycos search bar, the
following method will ensure that it is removed.

First, we'll disable Browser Helper Objects (BHO's), as that
is, more than likely, what the bar is.

Open Internet Explorer, then click on

Tools -> Internet Options

Click on the Advanced Tab.

Under the 'Browsing' section, uncheck the box named, "Enable
third-party browser extensions (requires restart)".

Restart the computer.

This should prevent that tool bar from loading.

Now, we'll remove the root of the problem; the object which
installed itself. This is best done by a program called
BHOCop. It is freely available, and can be downloaded here:

http://support.honour.ca/bin/bhocop.zip

Once you download BHOCop, run the setup program to install
it. When you run it, you can select the items you would like
to remove, in this case, the SideSearch bar.

Incidentally, you may also be interested in reading the
following article, as it applies to spyware/adware which may
also be a contributing factor.
