Hello,

I've determined I must delete my reverse lookup zone and recreate it. I'm
using Windows2000 Advanced Server for a forest root controller and primary
DNS server for my intranet. The zone has its x.x.x.in-addr.arpa reversed,
i.e., it looks like a forward zone. I have one forest domain with one child
domain. The nslookup fails.

I am new to this and am nervous about deleting or removing the zone, even
though it is apparently not functioning. My network is functioning
properly -not counting the failed nslookup- but people get their work done
and access resources. This I do not want to disrupt.

So, can I delete this reverse lookup zone without affecting my network,
apart from starting and stopping the DNS Server Service?

Thanks for any 'hand-holding',

Larry

Larry-

Shouldn't be a problem. Few applications rely on reverse lookups on the
typical LAN. If you have a lot of static PTR records that were manually
entered in the reverse zone, you may want to export those entries to a file
for reference (and so you can add them later to the new zone). The majority
of your entries should be automatically created by clients or your DHCP
server.
