Having had a similar problem I found that installing Service Pack 1 cured
the problem.

The first thing to do is to re-install the program and then uninstall it. If
the original is no longer available to install then you have to take another
approach:

Rename the folder that contains the program and reboot. See if the WindowsXP
complains about some program/file that is located in the directory of the
offending program. If the windows gives you such error and you are
comfortable with Registry editing, you can remove the references from the
registry. If you are not comfortable with the editing of registry then you
could just rename the program to it's original name and leave it along.

Assuming that did not receive any errors from Windows because there was no
problem or you removed the offending entries and the Windows no longer
complains, you can now safely remove the folder.
