Hello

I have had to reinstall Windows XP Professional SP2 on a Compaq nx9010
notebook due to a massive corruption on the computer.

The reinstall has gone successfully and all programs I need have been
reinstalled. My documents survived the mess, printer working, internet
connection working etc. Windows activation no problem either.

My question is - Can I delete the original corrupted version of
Windows or could this cause problems?

Hope the question is not too vague.

Any help appreciated.

Try renaming the folder where the old version of Windows is. Run for a few
days at least and see if any problems crop up. If everything is working OK
then you can delete the folder.

Thanks for your reply. The old version does have a different name so
guess I will wait & see how things go.

Did you rename it or do you mean it has a different name than the new
installation? You have to physically rename it. Just add an extension like
..OLD or something. This will break any programs that have the name hard
coded. If everything is OK after a week or so delete it.
