OE stopped retrieving my mail from my cable provider (Cox
Internet) a few days ago. Cox assures me that there is
nothing wrong with their line. I would like to
uninstall/reinstall OE and try that. However, OE prohibits
me from deleting the program. Any suggestions?

It is a "time-out" error. Here is a copy of the error: A
time-out occurred while communicating with the server.
Account: 'pop.cox-internet.com', Server: 'pop.cox-
internet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800CCC19.

In answer to your other questions: No firewall; No sharing
of IP addresses; I do use McAfee, but was not encountering
any difficulties in the past while using the same software
( I have tried with McAfee disabled - no luck). OE works
fine on my laptop with a dial-up, but my PC will not
interface. All other cable modem functions seem to work
fine (surfing, etc.)It seemed the only thing left to do
was uninstall/reinstall.

I am suffering from a similar problem, but I think mine
is linked to downloading the security patches from
windows update. I am also running Mcafee, but the problem
persists even when the firewall is disabled.

Same prob here: updated both McAfee and Windows update
and now outlook won't work regardless if Mcafee is
enabled or disabled. I am using a linksys router sharing
one ip.

i understand, a poster earlier this week states that a McAfee technician
advised terminating the mcvsescn.exe process. (looks like disabling isn't
enough)

You are correct. Disabling isn't good enough. After
uninstalling McAfee, everything worked fine. Thanks for
your help.
