You're using Windows Mail to access newsgroups.

You might ask this in:

Highlight the message and either right-click-delete or hit the Delete button
on the toolbar.

Sorry, no Right-click option. Explain what you mean by "I don't get the
option to delete".

Right-mouse click on the news group, not the individual postings.
Then choose "properties" from the menu.
Then choose the "local file" tab.
There you have the option to delete all the messages.

Individual messages are deleted by highlighting it and then press the "Delete" key on the keyboard.

While you might get the message to disappear from your machine, it exists in
the ether forever.

By the time you decide you shouldn't have sent the message (about seven
milliseconds), it has been copied to thousands of news servers and that
great unforgettable sinkhole, Google Groups.

Messages that you sent of just messages _you_ don't want to see?

Well for example, in my microsoft.public.windows.vista.general folder, I
have about 500 messages that are from a while back up to present, is there
any specific way to delete posts that have been read, or a group of
messages, or indeed them all, once i've finished with them.

thanks

.......

I use a message rule like this:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the message was sent more than 5 days ago
Delete it

and apply it manually. (It won't automatmatically apply itdilf to messages
already downloaded.)

Highlight all the messages you want to delete, and just click Delete on the
toolbar......

Two things you can do.
First, View>Current View>Hide read messages. This just hides the read
messages.

Second: Select your account, e.g. msnews.microsoft.com. You will see each
news group and the total number of messages on your computer.
Right click your newsgroup. e.g. microsoft.public.windows.vista.general.
Select properties, then the Local File tab. Click the Delete button. Click
Yes, the OK.
This will delete all the messages and headers from your computer.

Is this what you want?
