Deleting mail from IMAP inbox

I've recently set up a pc, using outlook from OfficeXP, with an IMAP email account.

On this pc, when emails are deleted or moved out of the Inbox, they remain shown there but with a
line struck through them. It seems that this is in case I later want to "undelete" them.

HOW do I TOTALLY delete them like I can with POP3 inboxes?

Edit -> Purge Deleted Messages. You can use Tools -> Customize to add this
to your toolbar, which makes it easier to use, IMHO.

Jeff. Your quick and to the point answer gives me the impression
you're very fluent with Imap and Outlook. Also, according to your signature
tag you seem to work with their development team.

Will you tell me if there is a way to use Imap in Outlook 2003 and be
able to select a message, from the list of headers, to delete without having
it downloaded or scanned. As you know there's a flag with all the message
headers that indicates whether the message associated with the header is on
the remote machine only or has been downloaded to the local machine. You
used to be able to easily do this in Outlook 2002. Now as soon as a message
is selected in 2003, the Outlook becomes locked up until the message has
been downloaded. If the message is extremely oversized and you have a slow
connection you may be locked away from Outlook for a substantial amount of
time.

Thanks a bunch for any response on this matter.

Also, anyone else familiar with Imap and Outlook 2003, please give some
input.

I assume that you have the reading pane on? When you select a message with
that on, Outlook will go to fetch the message to display it in the reading
pane. You can get around this by right-clicking on the message and
selecting 'Delete' or by turning the reading pane off.
