Java has a bunch of update folders in my Programs folder. The jrel.n.0_nn
contain copies of what appear to be duplicate bin and lib folders. My
add/remove dialog shows several updates to Java and Jave runtime
environment. It would be nice if Java cleaned up after itself when
installing updates. However, I am reluctant to delete the apparent
redundancy. Any advice for cleaning up things?

Thanks

Mike

Jave updates do not remove earlier versions in order to mainatin
compatibility of java apps that may have been written using an earlier
version.
You can uninstall the earlier version updates, provided you have no java
apps that are going to baulk, I've never actually experienced an issue with
early java apps not liking the latest version of Java
PS Dont delete the program/ Java entries, use Add/Remove dialogue

Remove all of Java, even the current version, using this Java removal tool,
then restart your computer:

JavaRa 59 KB (Freeware)
Info: http://raproducts.org/javara.html
Download: http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/javara/JavaRa.zip

Will give it a whirl. I have a lot of Java things installed:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE V1.4.2_16
Java 2 SDK, SE V1.4.2_16
Java 6 Update 12
Java SE Runtime Environment Update 1

Hopefully it will not install anything still needed.
Then download and install the latest version:

Java Runtime ~16 MB
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

I may not need this since it is jre v6 u12.

Thanks

Mike
