PPT 2000. When I save and later delete ppt files they continue to show up
under the heading, "Open an existing presentation". Why do these deleted
files still appear and how can I have them permanently removed from this
page?

That list comes from the Registry setting for Most Recently Used. Go to Tools >
Options > General and uncheck the Recently used file list. Close PowerPoint and
then reopen it. The list should be gone, but not permanently. If you go to
Tools > Options > General and check the Recently used file list, they will
return. However, as you open existing files in PowerPoint they will be added to
the list and others will fall off. Here's another trick:

Fill the MRU (Most Recently Used) list with bogus file names

I don't think so ... In PPT2000, you get an opening dialog box when you start PPT.
One of the options is "Open an existing presentation" (mwm's got it word for
word, thanks!)

Do you mean the "recently used file" list on the "File" menu....

In PowerPoint 2000 you see it in both places *if* you haven't turned Startup
dialog off and you have Recently used files checked.

The MRU list, yes. But not "Open an existing presentation" under the File menu.
Seems to show the same files either way, but interestingly if I kick the max MRU
setting down from 9 to 3, quit and restart, I still get 9 in the start dialog's
list, but only 3 on the MRU.

And people say we need to get a life! Hah! Does it GET any better than this???
