Kind of a stupid question but... Have to ask it. I have a
file that I want to get rid of, but it does not want to be
deleted. The error message says "Files being used by
another person" but no other program is using it. Have
tried but failed to delete this stupid file. Any idea how
I can delete it??

If no one is using the file, then it was left locked due
to a crashed program or a program running in the back
ground has it locked.

I suggest you shut down (actually shutdown and restart)
and you should be able to delete the file. If it
continues to report being use then you'll need to find
the program that's locking it. Use the task manager to
see what applications are running. Access task manager
by right clicking on the start bar (an area not occupied
by any icons) and choose "Task Manager" Look at the
Applications Tab and see what's running.

Hope this helps!

Is it an .avi file by any chance?
Try creating a new, empty folder and then moving the file to that folder.
Then delete that folder.

Hi Clay,

Media file?

Open Windows Media Player, remove that file from the playlist, then go back
and delete the file itself.

Try: Start>run>cmd This puts you in "dos" mode. Then use dos
commands to get to the right directory and then use the "del" command to
delete the file.
This has worked for me when for some reason, I've encountered the same
situation as you describe. Good luck
