Hi,

I can't for the life of me delete a temporary internet
file copied from a laptop backup. It's got a stupid long
filename and is around 8 folders deep. It's actually a
clip source for Realplayer.

Have tried a scandisk, made no difference. Folders can be
renamed, the file can't be, nor deleted.

Someone please help, I've got another file doing this now
on a W2K advanced server build with NTFS. Server just
beeps at me when I try to delete it.

Many thanks,
Richard

If you're getting the "cannot be deleted because is in use by another thread" try the following

Open task manager (ctrl alt delete) and end explorer.exe. KEEP TASK MANAGER OPEN

Go to file>newtask>cmd to open a new dos windo

navigate to the file you want to delete in dos and delete it using DEL comman

File>newtask>explorer.exe to get back to norma

I had a number of files locked like that and this method removed them all

Hope it help

Chri

I have a coworker that had the same problem. She had to
work thru the file and directories renaming them to short
names before she could delete.

I've tried deleting these files through cmd line, but
these temporary files are >130 characters long and dos
won't let me do it. Any ideas?
