deleting fax

We have windows xp and recently installed a fax
connection. However sometimes when the phone rings and
the computor is on we get a screeching noise. To this
end we tried to disconnected the fax facility. However
this has not solved the problem, occassionally when the
computor is on and we get an incoming call we get the
screeching noise. How do you delete the fax service
completely please.

Many thanks for answering. I disconnected the fax by

going into Start, Control Panel, Printers and other
hardware, and deleting the fax icon.
Do not know anything about automatic reception.
I have had a look through the help and support section
and found in 'Services' that the fax is still running - I
have not been able to find Services again. If you can
sort the problem can you give me an idiots guide to doing
it as I am more a typist than a computor buff! I look
forward to hearing from you.
 
Open the Fax Console > Tools > Configure Fax...
Second Pane
Disable automatic reception there.
