Hi all.

I just deleted alot of stuff on my pc and I was wondering are there any leftovers after I empty the recycle bin?

F.ex. I deletet games and work files wich I dont want to be recoverd on my maskine as well as privat informations I dont want to be found(personal work project, nothing dirty or something like that if thats what your wondering).
The computere I use is not my own and if I get a new laptop and there is another person getting this one I do not want them to find my files.

Do I have to set the pc up from scratch or is there another way to get rid off all this stuff?

Sinceraly,

Julius

Hi, Welcome to the Forum.

When you delete a file all the Hard Drive does is overwrite it with new data, to take it's place. (I think lol)

Hi and thx. :)

I always thought you could recive files after you deletet them from the recycle bin :s.

Probably I´m wrong but just wanted to check it out. :)

No worries.

If you wanted to recover files after you have deleted them for Recycle Bin, there are many third party data recovery software out there.

I'm not sure if Windows has a built in one - have to wait to see if anyone else replies :thumb:

Yep, if you delete a file and empty the recycle bin there's a good change you can still get it back by using data recovery tools. If you really want to wipe a file for whatever reason, you'd need to run something like a low level formatting tool, or zerofill your hard drive. There are tools out there that you can run which fill your drive with zeros, so you can't recover data should you sell your PC on to someone.
