deleting certain fonts

I have some fonts in WinXP that will crash PrintShop when
my cursor simply rolls over the font name (even without
selecting these fonts). Specifically, they are
named "@Dotum" and "@DotumChe". In the Fonts folder, then
appear to be part of a font family listed as "Gulim &
GulimChe & Dotum & DotumChe", with a filename of
gulim.ttc. They appear to be Korean language fonts that I
can't imagine using. I'd like to delete them, but WinXP
will NOT allow me to do so, whether through the font app
in control panel (even from safe mode) or even a DOS
window. Can someone help? Is it O.K. to delete these
fonts? How can this be done?

According to www.fileext.com, TTC files may be "true type compressed
fonts" or a "true type font collection. Multiple fonts in a single
file. Used by Windows in the Far East." Where did you get your copy of
WinXP? You don't have to answer.

What happens when you attempt to delete them. If you are getting a
message that the files can't be deleted because they are in use by an
open application try:

1. Close all apps
2. Open a command prompt ("DOS window") and navigate to your font
directory.
3. open Task Manager (<ctrl><alt><del>) and "end task" on explorer.exe
4. delete the file in the command prompt window
5. back in Task Manager, use File > New Task and start explorere.exe

copy of WinXP is a real, store-bought one- BestBuy, I
think. The fonts may have been installed as a consequence
of not paying attention when I surfed over to some Asian
web sites. Although I had tried to delete them from the
DOS window (at least I knew THAT much), it wouldn't work.
Using Task Manager to shut down explorer did the trick. I
was able to delete them, and, upon rebooting, they don't
show up in the font window in Print Shop.

I am forever in your debt <grin>!
