I have (finaly) successfully installed SP4 on my Win2K
Pro. notebook. Where do I find the archived files to
delete so I can recover some disk space?

Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim

First, please make sure you set Windows to display hidden Files and Folders.
To view them in Windows Explorer, you must click Tools, Folder Options,
click the View tab, then click the radio button next to "Show hidden files
and folders."

You can find the Files in your Windows directory. Go to the following
Directory: C:\WINNT\$NtServicePackUninstall$/spuninst (in this example, c:\
is the %systemdrive%, ie the Partition/Drive where you have Windows 2000
installed). Now, delete the "$NtServicePackUninstall$" and you are done.

However, bear in mind that you won't be able to uninstall SP4 after doing
this. So I don't recommend that you do it unless you are on very low HDD
space.

If you now also want to get rid of the obsolete entry in Add/Remove Programs
(in Control Panel), then follow the instructions provided in the following
MS KB-Article:

- "How to Manually Remove Programs from the Add/Remove Programs List":

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=247501

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio

Fabio,

Seems to have worked fine. Thank for the fast response.

Yes, I'm running with a old Dell w/ a 6 GB drive so every
MB is precious.

What can you say about C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles ?
Can I do the same with this folder ?
