Hi Steve G :-)

How can I get rid of it from my desktop?

If it is only a webpage, try right clicking on it then click Delete, see if
that deletes it.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

I tried that and do not get an option to delete.
I get open link, open link in new window, save target, print target, etc.

This must be something many have done before.

Hi Steve :-)

Can you drag it to the Recycle Bin, then delete it from there?

Have you tried going to C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Desktop in
Windows Explorer and delete it from there?

If you go into Display Properties in Control Panel, click on Desktop, click
on Customize desktop - Click on tab for Web - do you have a check in Lock
Desktop items? If so remove the check and see if you can delete the link.

Hi Steve :-)

If removing it from the Desktop as Ron suggested does not work, try the same
thing from Safe Mode.

If this does not work, then I suggest that you do the following:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:

Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but to the SpywareInfo or the Aumha HiJackThis forums
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30, to allow the experts there to
evaluate your log and advise you of the necessary steps to clean your
system.

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs
below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Also, get a copy of WINSOCKFIX available at:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
and

From LavaSoft- all versions of Windows-

also ....
(NOTE: It is reported that in XP SP2, the command netsh winsock reset
will fix this problem without the need for these programs.)

You might also want to get Art's updater, SYS-UP.Zip, here for future
updating of these: http://home.epix.net/~artnpeg/.
(If you download and use the updater from the beginning, it will
automatically handle downloading the other files. Place them in a dedicated

Don't worry yourself about knowledge or lack of it - that is what this group
is here for. Either to pass along information or gain information from
others. I am sorry I didn't explain a bit more clearly.

You are trying to delete a link from your desktop - correct?

1st suggestion:

Open Windows Explorer
In the left pane - Look for 'My Computer' and if it has a plus sign '+'
beside it - click on the plus sign.
Underneath My Computer should be your drive "+ C:" Click on the plus sign
for the C drive and it should open up the tree below it.
Click on the + sign next to 'Documents and Settings' and underneath it will
be a folder with your name on it and it will also have a + sign next to it.
Click on that + sign and it will drop down further in your directory
structure. You should see a folder called "Desktop" - click on that folder
and you should see the contents of your desktop show up in the right hand
window.
Find the 'Link' you are trying to delete - right click on it and see if you
have the option to Delete it.

2nd suggestion:

Click on Start - then Control Panel - then Display.
Click on the Desktop tab at the top of the window. Click on Customize
Desktop at the bottom of the window. Click on the Web tab at the top of the
new window. At the bottom of the window you should see an option to Lock
Desktop items. If there is a check mark in the box to the left of that -
click on it to remove it. Now - OK you're way back out of all this and get
back to your desktop. Can you delete the link now?

Ron thank you for your kindness and reply.

YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trying the second suggestion via the control panel and display, the link was
checked. I removed the check from the link and now it's gone. Many thanks,
for a job well done.

Glad I was able to help - and thanks for posting back with the results.

Ron, since you helped me before perhaps I can ask you another question.
I looked through pages of posts and answers and didn't see a resolution.
I helped my sister update to XP SP2.
The update went fine and afetr restarting, her IE was gone.
If we clicked it in the start menu we got internet properties.
I did a search and IE doesn't show up in program files.

Any suggestions?

What happens if you do a search for "iexplore.exe" - without the quotes?
