Deleting a selected word

Normaly I selected a word or group of words to delete,
then just pressed delete. Now nothing happens and a box at
the bottom of the page askes me do I want to delet yes or
no. How can I revert to previously

Tools | Options | General: Clear the check boxes for both items that refer
to WordPerfect.
