Hi,

I am trying to replace a file in the system 32 folder, called WSOCK32.dll.
Think mine is corrupted so i need to replace with a fresh copy. However i
cant, it womt let me delete the current one, or in fact any file in that
folder.

I go throught the usual new security feature allowing the operation to go
ahead but then i get the error... " You need permission to perform this
action".

I am the only user on the computer and i am administrator.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Oh i also tried booting up in safe mode but this made no difference.

I know this is old but it's a goodie. You remember xtree gold? There is
another one called ZTree Gold. That should do the trick.

You have to take ownership of any protected system files or folders in order
to delete, replace, or modify them.
Right click file/Properties/Security Tab/Advanced Button/Owner Tab/Edit
Button/<Change owner to>(select your account)/OK. Then go back to the
Properties/Security Tab/Edit Button this time, and check to allow yourself
Full control. Then you can do what you want.

Hi,

Click start, type CMD and right click the entry in the menu, use 'run as
admin'. From the prompt, run sfc /scanfile=wsock32.dll

Ztree is a dos based windows explorer/file manager type of thing. You can
delete anyfile whether it's in use or not. It's not commonly used anymore
but I still do for certain things. Try going to http://www.ztree.com
