Deleting 1 Million Files from a folder

Hi guys.. I'm in a bit of a situation.

due to bad programming I now have a FEW folders with about oh..1 million
files in it. del *.* is taking so long until I don't even know wheter it's
still running or not. Does anyone have an idea on how to quickly delete such
a large number of files?

Suppose you could format. command line is the fastest if you don't
format the partition.

How about deleting the folders and contents instead?

Nope.. RD /s.. not working

I tried to get a log of files in the folder by
dir > log.txt

The log.txt grew and grew till it hit 95MB.. then it just STOPPED.. the
command prompt window hung, I tried killing CMD but after the first time it
just give me an access denied error.
