When I go to remove the desktop icon (OL2003), I get a message box informing me that it "provides special functionality and we recommend that you do not remove it.

What is the special functionality

Michael

It is not a shortcut; rightclick it and you'll see the extra functionality.
You can remove it by editing the registry. For more info see;

Roady,
What extra's does it add ? Mine never installed a desktop icon, but did in
the far left start-up bar and in looking at the shortcut, the only thing I
did not expect was that it went to "outlook.exe /recycle" What is the
"recycle" part ?
Thanks
Tedd

The desktop icon isn't installed on a Windows XP client but is on a Windows
2000 client. It adds the same rightclick functionality as it did with
previous versions of Outlook; easy access your the account settings (the
Mail icon in Control Panel).

The /recycle switch will cause Outlook not to open a new screen when using
that shortcut; it wil make your main Outlook screen active instead.

OK, thanks Roady as I thought I had seen that before and it must have been
my Win 2000 days.
Thanks again
