Deleted User Account

I have a friend that deleted one of her user accounts. She not only lost all
the files in that account but several programs were gone or messed up. I had
her do a system restore which fixed all the programs didn't restore the
missing files.

She has lost all her pictures, mp3, and files in My Documents and her mail
and address in Outlook Express. Is there any way to restore these files? I
don't know if it is possible.

Tell her to get out the disk she backed up all her data on and get it
off that.

What? She did not back up????

Hard way to learn a lesson - alwasy back up all your data!!!

Look in the directory:-

C:\Documents and Settings

and see if the account name that was deleted still has a folder with
its name in there.

If so try and open it and see if the files are there.

You may have to boot into safe mode and log on as administrator to
access them.

If you get a message while trying to open the folder (if it is there)
that they are protected or something like that then leave a message
here and we can tell you how to take posession of them.

OK, I am at the "cannot access because I don't have access.
I got infected with the blaster worm. I had to format a new hard drive, put the operating system on that, run Norton and cleaned up all of the drives
On the old system, I had a user account with a password and all of my files were on there in the old drive C
Now, those same files are in Drive f: under the old sign-on name and they say assess is restricted
I tried to make a user account of the previous name with the same password but that did not work
Any suggestions

How to take ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP:-

If you have XP Home read carefully the bit about starting in Safe Mode
and logging on with an account that has Administrative rights
