Hello,
We have a gateway server and 3 workstations. All the
files that we work on are stored on the serves and we
access the files through a shred folder. Whenever I
delet a file I cannot find it in my workstations recylce
bin or the recyle bin on the server. Where do these
files go??

Server - Windows Serever 2000
Workstation - Windows XP Professional.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi NIckie -

FIles that are deleted across a network (as you described) are not
moved into either the loacal Recycle Bin or the server's Recycle Bin.
They're sent off into bitland. ;-)

There are third-party software products that can recover a file
deleted across the network, as long as the file has not been
overwritten by other file activity. The more things that have
happened on the shared drive since the file was deteled, the higher
the chances it has been overwritten. Search on Google for "undelete",
and you'll find several options available.

One of the products you'll find during the search is Undelete, by
Executive Software. It can recover the file (if it's not yet been
overwritten), and more significantly, Undelete can replace the Windows
Recycle Bin on your server with its own "Recovery Bin", which *does*
capture deletions across a network (unlike the Windows Recycle Bin).
The Executive Software site has a free utility you can download to see
if the lost file is still recoverable. Go to www.undelete.com for
more information.

I hope this helps -

Not looking for points here, but I've used Exec Soft's products since I
purchased the Diskeeper for NT 4 workstation and server (v3 I think!). Great
stuff and it works as described. This is the stuff that all MS products
SHOULD include.
