is it possible to recover files which have been deleted over network?

I have deleted one folder on laptop over WAN, how do I get it back,
please?

thank you

Depends entirely on the filesystem on the other side. Also you usually
cannot do any remote undeletion, only a local one on the fileserver
itself, since the abstraction used to make the files accessible over
the network prevents the low-level access needed for file recovery.

I believe if you login directly onto the machine that you deleted the
files from itself, it may have saved them to its local undelete folder.
That local undelete folder won't be available over the network.

Note: I haven't tried any of this, so I'm just giving an educated guess.

Many of those file recover programs will work over a network. recover nt
comes to mind. Do *NOT* install anything on the notebook. Doing so can
overwrite the stuff you need Do it all from another computer. I have used
file scavenger but it does not work over the network. If it was me I would
take the notebook drive out, put it into a 3.5" adapter and use file
scavanger (only because I own it already). I have used recover nt before
and I recall it does work over network but the last time I looked at it
there was a problem with large disks and I went with file scavenger.

if you notebook drive has a second partition then intall your file recover
program there and you shouild be o.k.

Occassionally, you can use the windows xp built in "System Restore" to
recover a deleted directory. I would try that first assumeing you got XP.

No, on laptop there is a 2K Pro.

Tnx for your tips though.

So, to sum up, files are still there on laptop's hard drive, they are
just not seen by me over the network. OK.
So, files can be recovered.

ok, tnx.

As mentioned by Mr Khan, you should be able to spot the files in the recycle
bin. An exception to that would be if you used the command line to delete
the files as in "del c:\winnt /s" for example.
