I am pretty new to computers, and suspect my son is downloding
questionable content and deleteing before i get home. I heard of using
safe mode to find deleted video files. Can you guys help? Thanks.

You can always install a stealth program that logs all key strokes or takes a
snapshot each few seconds. Do a Google search for 'Keylogger' or go here:
http://www.x-pcsoft.com/ for 'XPC Spy Pro'. I haven't used any of these
type programs, but there are hundreds more that do the same thing.

Good Luck.

If files were deleted, there is nothing in Windows, including safe mode,
of which I am aware that would make them visible. Except: you could try a
look in the recycle bin.

Also, there are file undelete utilities. Try a Google search for
"undelete file".

That being said, it is my personal view that the best solution by far is
to discuss the issue fully, openly and sympathetically with him.

How about trying to prevent him from going to those websites in the
first place? Try enabling Content Advisor in Internet Explorer. Go to
Tools --> Internet Options --> Content.

If he is not downloading them from Explorer, then try look for P2P
software such as Limewire and the likes.......good luck

Well, if what you want is to simply KNOW what & where he surfed, try these:
1-Check in the history folder in windows explorer. there you can see what
web sites he visited he did that day, yesterday, the day before, etc.
2- And/or also, check the 'cookies' in "my computer' area to see where he
went. websites leave those in this area (C:\documents and settings\his user
account'\cookies)

I mean, these are ways to "check' on your kid to see what they have viewed.
there are ways to see stuff that they may not know that you know how to. You
can also check your recent documents folder that lists the most rececntly
used (MRU) folders, by going to
3-C:\Documents and Settings\his user account' (Recent documents folder is a
hidden file. so, note that you will not find the recent documents folder
unless you 'show' hidden files. Go to tools in window explorer>folder
options>click on the view tab> scroll down to the folder named 'Hidden files
and folders' & click to show hidden files and folders>then click apply>ok .
Now search for the recent documents folder in #3. open and look all you
want. It should show lost of things he viewed recently.
also, try the 'spy' type programs the others recommend. these are just ways
to see stuff.
good luck
