Hi. I've been searching the web for an answer to this problem all morning,
and I note with interest that you've got a post on this very newsgroup on the
same subject. However, the reply that was given below doesn't apply to me.

"Hi ,

You might be experiencing one of the two following problems:

819536 Roaming profiles are not saved when a user logs off a Microsoft
Windows 2000-based computer or a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;819536

883521 Changes to your roaming user profile are not saved when you log
off
and then log on to a Windows Server 2003-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;883521

Thanks,
Drew"

So I'd like you to consider this problem, single Windows 2000 domain
controller, Windows XP SP2 PC member of that domain, domain user deletes a
file within My Documents and reboots PC but file comes back. If the file is
instead deleted from the My Documents folder in the roaming profile copy on
the server then it's re-created by the PC rebooting. The only way to
permanently delete is to delete from both PC and server.

It looks like the problem is the file being deleted on the local profile
isn't being deleted from the roaming profile at logoff.

The question is, what's causing this please :)

The only entry in event viewer (application) is code 1525 which doesn't help
me find the fix.

Any more info required please let me know!

Regards,

Steve

If you are using roaming profiles, you really ought to have folder
redirection enabled via group policy or you will have problems galore. Do
folder redir for My Documents at the very least - and if you aren't also
going to redirect the desktop, advise users not to store any files/folders
on their desktops. I generally redirect to the user's home directory.

Also, make sure all workstations are running the MS User Profile Hive
Cleanup utility - it's a free download.
