Is there any way to resore a file that was deleted to the
recycle bin and then lost when the bin was emptied? I
have not done anything else with the computer since
deleting the file. It is a Dell 1100 notebook.
 
Not natively in XP but if you might try a search on Google for file recovery
applications as there are several that might be able to retrieve it.
