I used the DBXtract and it appears to only retrieve e-
mails that are current on my system.

I was using my laptop with the Sprint PCS Connection card
and left the laptop to retrieve e-mail messages. The
computer ran out of battery power and died during
receiving e-mail process.........since then it appears
that I have lost the last 4 months of e-mails. They are
not in my delted folder or anywhere else that a non-
computer programming person like myself can find.

If they were deleted do they exsist? Where? I tried the
search for .dbx files on my C drive, but they do not
exsist. Does this sound like something a PC can do...lose
e-mails if it gets shut down in the middle of receiving e-
mails??

THANKS FOR ANY GREAT PERSON THAT CAN HELP ME!!!!

Robert

Because e-mail is not store as individual files but rather are stored in
..dbx files, as you are already aware, any corruption of the .dbx can cause
loss of all the files that were in the .dbx. It is possible that your files
are gone if the .dbx became corrupted during the shutdown. Generally when
this happens you see an error message the next time you run Outlook Express
telling you that a problem occurred while opening a specific e-mail. Most
often you don't lose all files but I can imagine it could happen.

I don't know if an undelete program like this one will help but you could
run it to see if it finds any deleted .dbx files, recover them and use
DBXtract to recover what's in them

If your PC shuts down while polling for mail, or whilst having "compact
in the background" enabled, then corruption of OE folders is very
likely. Go to tools>options>maintenance>store folder and note the
location. Close OE. Navigate to this location and you may see folders
with numbers appended as in Inbox(1).dbx....MOVE all the other folders
(without numbers) to another place on your hard drive.
Now try DBXtract again on these folders (try Recover mode) and see what
you get. You can drag the messages back into OE.
Let me know how you get on as there may other things you can do, along
with some hints and tips for future use.
