I am trying to retrieve some e-mails from my dad's
computer (I am the computer guru in the family, which is
REALLY scary). Anyway, he recently updated to MS Outlook
6 from 5 I think and now all of his old MS Outlook emails
are GONE. I am sure they are here somewhere, I just have
no idea where to start to look. I am fairly sure that the
new Outlook replaced all the old files, but is there
somewhere they may have "sent" all old e-mails.

I am sure he did not archive them, as he probably just
assumed everything would transfer over to the new version.

Please help!!

Thanks,
Lauri

Are you referring to Outlook or Outlook Express? Different methods to locate
old files.

I am deducing that you meant Outlook Express.

Outlook Express use what Microsoft calls "Store Folders" to store email. The
default location for each user's message store folder is on the same
partition on which Windows XP is installed. The default location for each
user's message store folder is :
Documents and Settings\user ID\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{class}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

In this folder you will find a file named for each Outlook Express folder
(inbox, sent items, drafts, etc.) with the file extention .dbx

I would try a hardrive search for *.dbx and find all locations. You can
import from the old location if different from new upgrade location. You can
also change from the current location to the old location. The easy way to
see (or change) your current message store is:

1- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Maintenance tab.
2- On the Maintenance property sheet, click the Store Folder button.
3- Change the path of the message store folder, if necessary.
4- Click OK to close the Store Location dialog box.
5- Click OK to close the Outlook Express Options dialog box.
6- Restart Outlook Express for the changes to take effect.

Good Luck,
